The PL Lines team recently visited the Blackburn Metals site in Kingswinford, to give their factory line markings a well-needed makeover.

The work we carried out at the site included the removal of all of the old walkways markings and the marking out of brand new markings, including new walkways and a Zebra crossing. The old yellow markings had become very worn due to them being used on a day-to-day basis. This wearing had also resulted in the markings and surface they were marked on to become slippery, which created a number of issues relating to the Health and Safety within the factory.

In order to re-establish a good grip on the surface and remove the markings we used a technique known as shotblasting. This technique is very effective at removing old paint or stains from concrete and is 99% dust free, so can even be used in food warehouses.

We put a team of 5 operatives on this job, who worked together to get the work completed within one single day, to ensure the work caused minimal disruption to the running of the Blackburn Metals site.

We had 2 operatives carrying out the shotblasting, another laying down primer to prolong the life of the paints we used and to ensure a good bond to the surface and 2 other operatives masking and painting the walkways and Zebra crossings. After the markings were laid, 2 of the operatives then applied a paint sealer over the top of the markings. This sealer will make cleaning the markings very easy for the factory, as it sets over the top of the markings like a clear varnish, that still has a good level of grip to ensure health and safety.
