PL Lines help Virgin Active Gyms keep up to date with the latest Fitness Trends

by Debbie Mann

We recently worked with Virgin Active Gyms, to mark out HIIT grids at a number of their locations.

HIIT, or High Intensity Interval Training, is a type of training that involves repeated bouts of high intensity effort followed by varied recovery time. These bouts of high intensity bouts may range from 5 second to 8 minutes in length and are performed at 80-95% of a person’s estimated maximal heart rate.

HIIT training has been shown to have several benefits to individuals, including improving aerobic and anaerobic fitness and improving blood pressure, cardiovascular health and cholesterol profiles. These benefits are just one of the many reasons why this method of training and workout has become so popular.

HIIT training has become increasingly popular over recent years due to the fact that it can be easily modified to suit individuals of all fitness levels and abilities. HIIT can be performed using exercise modes including walking, cycling, swimming and elliptical cross-training.

Not only this, but it is also popular due to the length of the workouts and the calories burnt; HIIT training benefits individuals in a very similar way, if not in the same way as continuous endurance workouts, but in shorter periods of time.

HIIT workouts are known to burn more calories and achieve EPOC, excess post exercise oxygen consumption, which adds between 6-15% more calories to the overall calories the workout has burnt.

The work that Virgin Active were interested in was having HIIT training grids marked out in three of their existing gyms in Lichfield, Swiss Cottage and Thundersley, so that they could offer and facilitate this popular workout method to their clients.

After discussing the requirements for the HIIT Training grid with Virgin Active before attending, we had calculated the measurements for the grid, so that the design was 100% accurate and would meet the gyms needs, as well as the users’ needs.

When carrying out the work at these gyms, we ensured minimal disruption was caused to the day-to-day running of the gym and to the routine of those visiting the gym, by completing the work within the space of one single day.

Each HIIT training grid was marked out on vinyl flooring, which we prepped through cleaning the surface, to ensure that we achieved the smoothest and most professional and accurate finish as possible. We also used to best sports marking paint for the grids, to ensure durability. Due to the purpose of the grid, these markings will experience extensive and intense use and therefore, will need to be durable enough to stand the test of time, so that users can continue to use this facility for months to come.

We were delighted to help these Virgin Active gyms to facilitate this popular HIIT workout method for their clients and we also recently quoted for this same service for the Virgin Active gym located in Notting Hill, which we look forward to working at.
